Children are fun!
They are little balls of energy and it is so rewarding to see their pain resolve or to help them develop their gross motor skills. Being able to sit up independently makes a massive difference to a child's quality of life and it can be quite emotional when they take their first steps independently.
I have extensive experience in providing Physiotherapy for children and young people.
Working with young children requires a different approach and communication style from working with young people and adults. I engage children through play so that they are having fun during their sessions and often do not realise they are working. Activities for the session will be selected according to what we want to achieve, and will be adapted and changed as the child progresses.
Working with teenagers requires still another skill set and communication style, and a working knowledge of current girl groups and events in the premier league also helps! The approach for treating teenagers with MSK conditions (sporting injuries, back or joint pain) is similar to that for adults. Young people with learning disabilities or long term conditions are also approached in an age-appropriate way, but as their therapy is usually longer term the activities chosen for their sessions also need to be interesting, engaging and fun.
Even a child dealing with the most challenging of health circumstances has a story to tell. They have a sense of humour, likes and dislikes and know who their favourite people are.

Yes.
As children spend the majority of their day in school it can be beneficial to meet with nursery/ school staff to discuss the child's performance and any difficulties they may experience there, eg. in PE lessons or in the playground.
Demonstrating a few relevant activities to a Classroom Assistant so that they can be carried out at school will support the work being done at home and in therapy sessions.
Physiotherapy sessions (not the initial assessment) can take place at school, with the school's consent, to minimise both the disruption to the school day and the time missed from school.
Please note: travel costs will be added.
Absolutely, although this will incur an additional fee.
